ClosetLink is a Canadian marketplace app for buying, selling, and swapping secondhand clothing. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can do about it.
This policy applies to the ClosetLink iOS app and to closetlink.shop.
ClosetLink is operated from Ontario, Canada. For questions about this policy or about your personal information, contact us at team@closetlink.shop.
We are the party responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
Account and profile. Your email address and a username. If you create your account with a password, the password is held by our authentication provider, never by us in readable form. You can also create an account or sign in through Google or Apple, in which case we receive your email address from them instead of a password. If you use Sign in with Apple, the address we receive may be a relay address that forwards to you rather than your own. Optionally an avatar image, a short bio, a general location you type yourself (a city or region, not a device reading), your country, and your preferred currency.
Listings. Photographs of items, item names and descriptions, brand, size, condition, category, price, and whether you offer shipping, meetup, or both. Draft listings are stored the same way as published ones.
Shipping addresses. When you buy or swap with shipping, we collect a recipient name, street address, city, province or state, postal code, country, and a phone number. Shipping addresses are shared with the other party to a transaction so they can send you the item. In a swap, addresses are exchanged only once both parties have entered theirs.
Meetup arrangements. If you arrange an in-person swap, the location, time, and any notes you enter are stored on the swap record and visible to the other party.
Messages and offers. The content of direct messages between users, and the content of offers, including any message you attach to an offer.
Reviews. Ratings and written comments you leave about other users.
Support and disputes. If you contact support, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message. If you open a dispute, we collect the evidence you upload — including photographs — and store it in restricted storage accessible only for handling the dispute.
Seller payout information. If you sell, you provide identity and banking details directly to our payments provider so they can pay you. This is described in section 5.
Activity in the app. We record which listings you view and interact with, what you like, save, or add to a bag, who you follow, and your browsing preferences (categories, brands, sizes, price ranges) so we can show you relevant items.
Product analytics. We record a fixed set of app events — for example account creation, sign-in, viewing a listing, starting a message, starting checkout, and completing a payment. These are recorded against a pseudonymous identifier derived from your account, never your email address. Events are also recorded before you sign in, under an anonymous identifier that is linked to your account once you do. We do not record session replays.
Push notification tokens. If you enable notifications, we store a device token so we can deliver them, along with the content of the notifications we send you.
Website logs. Visits to closetlink.shop generate standard server logs, including IP addresses, and aggregate page-view analytics.
We want to be specific about this rather than silent.
We do not collect your device's location. The ClosetLink app contains no location functionality. It does not request location permission, and on iOS it is technically incapable of doing so — the app does not declare a location permission, so your device will never present a location prompt from ClosetLink. Any location shown on your profile is text you typed yourself.
We never see your full card number. Card details are entered into and held by our payments provider. They do not pass through our systems and are not stored in our database.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
We share data with service providers who help us operate ClosetLink. Each receives only what it needs to perform its function.
We also share information with the other party to a transaction, as described above — your username, profile, ratings, and, where a transaction requires it, your shipping address or meetup details.
We may disclose information where required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Our database is hosted in Canada.
Some of our service providers are located outside Canada, including in the United States. Data transferred outside Canada may be subject to the laws of those countries. We take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected in accordance with this policy.
Under Canadian privacy law you have the right to:
Much of your information is directly viewable and editable in the app. For anything else, contact us at team@closetlink.shop and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are in Quebec, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights, including data portability and the right to object to certain processing. Contact us and we will honour them.
You can request deletion of your account from within the app. When you do:
Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.
Access to your information is restricted by database-level rules that limit each account to its own data and to the specific records a transaction gives it a reason to see. Dispute evidence is held in restricted storage. Payment card details never reach our systems. Communication with our servers is encrypted in transit.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.
ClosetLink is for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have, we will delete the account and its information.
We may update this policy. If we make a material change, we will notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when this version was published.
